Career Guidance Chatbot

Project Summary

Project Summary

The What'sMeBot is a career guidance chatbot for teenagers. It analyses skills, identifies personalities and offers job recommendations based on its learnings.

Context
The Project was developed on a briefing by the ‚Bundesagentur für Arbeit‘.

Objective
Create something that makes pupils deal with their future career perspectives in an entertaining and less instructive way.

Approach
We tested the ideas of how to build a career guidance chatbot in its early stages. We created a prototype and did Usability Tests with potential users to find out more about their needs, wants and pain points.

Challenge
Our goal was to create a tool that delivers valid information and still remains entertaining. On our way to achieve that goal the results of our Usability Test played an important role.

Usability Testing

Usability Testing

After creating an Interactive Prototype we did Usability Tests with participants who were potential users of our chatbot. The tests were conducted moderated in person

Goal for the test

Assess the learnability of new users interacting with the Chatbot for the first time. Identify the strengths and weaknesses and provide opportunities for improvement.

Key Insights

  • Pupils know their way around mobile devices and WhatsApp really well
  • The process of saving the chatbots phone number and initiating a chat didn't cause any problems
  • Our users want to perform the whole 'chat' in one run instead of a clustered version distributed over a few days
  • 8 questions is enough – more questions lead to a decrease of attention and cancellation
  • The participants were often surprised by the result (Profile Card with career type) but also found the results to be true
  • The participants enjoyed the experience and would share it with their peers

The Chatbot

The Chatbot

To maximise the attention of pupils towards our chatbot we asked the german influencer Julien Bam to start the conversation. The introduction was followed by 8 that could be answered via numbers or emojis. To light up the conversations some answers will cause memes as a reaction of the chatbot.

Profile Cards

Profile Cards

Having answered all the questions users would receive a Profile Card. This Profile Card shows what career type a user is based on his answers. There were four possible types: creative, craftsman, social and strategist. Based on these types the bot would also offer job suggestions.

Campaign Website

Campaign Website

To direct traffic towards the chatbot we created a fully responsive campaign website. This website served as a landing page for social ads. It explained the chatbot and how to connect to it and it offered more information on the different career types.
