Project Summary

TYPISCH ICH! AR is a campaign that is using Augmented Reality to help pupils identify their talents in an entertaining way and promote a career guide chatbot.

Context
The Project was developed on a briefing by the ‚Bundesagentur für Arbeit‘.

Objective
A billboard campaign to promote the What’sMeBot – a chatbot for pupils to explore their talents. Main Problem: How do we trigger the interest of pupils towards a digital tool by promoting it on a standard billboard ad?

Approach
I came up with a technique that I had seen in a blog some time ago - Augmented Reality triggered through pictures as markers. 
I researched different services to find out more about the technique, the costs, needed effort, needed skills, APIs and required software.
Having found a working solution my texter and I created a concept for engaging video content.

Challenge
It is mandatory to have an app  on the mobile device to be able to scan the AR Marker. For most of the Users that would mean to download and install an app before being able to use the experience.

Solution: We implemented the feature in the AzubiWelt  app of our client – an app to find an apprenticeship. This came out as a win-win situation because it offered a fun feature for existing users, increased downloads of the app and led more users to our AR experience.

How it works

We found a service that was able to use an image as an Augmented Reality Marker. This way we could create static billboards and make their content come to life with videos that started with the frame of the print and stayed sticky on the billboard.

The idea was to make the billboards come to life and tell the stories of different characters who try to find a purpose for their talent. Our characters fail a couple of times but in the end they do find their profession. All four characters and their stories were illustrated by different illustrators to underline their uniqueness. The Illustrations were then animated and the final videos integrated in the AR platform.

Besides billboards that were hung in the waiting areas of our clients agencies and highschools we also chose to print our markers on postcards. This way they could be handed over to pupils who could take and use them anywhere they want.
